A conversation with FA...
Food Addicts in Recovery, or FA, is an incredible program for those struggling with food addictions in all of it's forms. I had a chance to chat with someone from FA and I posted our conversation below!
1. What are the tangible first steps that someone who is struggling with food addiction can take?
I always suggest that someone come to a meeting.
2. When someone who is struggling with food addiction visits your site, what can they get, what can they take away?
There is a brief description of FA, a few personal accounts from members, a list of 20 questions that may help someone determine if they are a food addict and a list of meetings available.
3. What can someone who attends a Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous meeting expect?
The meetings are 1 1/2 hours long - during the first 20 minutes, how the program works is laid out, followed by a 25 minute talk from one of the members sharing their experience with the program. Other members share for 3-5 minutes about their experience for the remainder of the meeting. For me personally, I felt immediately at home. I found that I related to what was being said in the rooms and felt hope for the first time that there is a solution to this disease of food addiction.
4. Is your program just for those who struggle with overeating, or is it open to people with all types of food issues?
It is open for anyone who has problems or issues with food - overeating, undereating, bulimia, overexercising to control weight, etc.
Hopefully that helps give you a better idea of what they are up to at FA, you can check out their website here!
