Our friend Rob Bell shared with us some of his thoughts on addictions:

*What sort of addictions have you encountered the most in your community and why do you think that is?
We've seen everything-from alcohol to drugs to sex to money to power...
so many carry around such pain and we'll do anything to try and escape
it or at least make it go away for several hours. There's an old, old story
that says we've been like this from the beginning (wink, wink)
* How does the community at MarsHill respond to those who are struggling with addictions?
we ask "what's the next step for this person and are they willing?" some
people need immediate medical attention, others need to go to a meeting,
some just need someone to look them in the eyes and say "I've been where
you are and let me tell you how I was rescued..." But a person has to
want it, you can't override the human heart.
*How do you feel that we can better meet the needs of those struggling with addictions around us?
it's important to be the kind of person who can be told anything-
any secret, any struggle, any shame-and you'll stand right there
next to the person no matter what and you'll walk with them through
whatever it's going to take to be free
*What do you think is the first step for someone struggling with addiction to take?
a humble one. admit it. come clean. vomit up the toxic lie that
there's no hope. trust that others have gotten through and so will
you
*What do you believe that God has to say to those who are addicted?
You are always with me and everything I have is yours.
